We are Under the Dogwood Tree, an Edinburgh/Lothians based Americana/folk/blues band. We have just released our debut album and we are looking to get gigs, doing original music, covers or a combination of both.
We are in our 30's and have full time jobs, so if you are looking to make it big in the music business and gig every night this might not be for you, we do this for a bit of fun and a bit of extra money.
We are primarily a duo (guitar & harmonica/vocals and violin) but have a rolling stock of people who play with us, including a female backing vocalist/flautist, bass, drums, guitar and mandolin. It would be nice to get someone who can commit to the band as a guitarist, as right now we are relying on friends to fill in.
At our album launch we had a seven piece band and it sounded rich and full - we can get away with smaller combos no problem, as all the songs were written for a duo but on the album there is a lot of instruments and we just like playing in a band format.
You'll almost exclusively be playing acoustic guitar (for now - plenty of scope to "go electric" later) and the playing involves lead and rhythm, fingerpicking, alternate tunings and a good mix of styles - really fun to play. The other guitarist will handle lead and some acoustic playing as well. We have six acoustics ( four of which are powered by LR Baggs M1As) at our disposal, a mandolin, four electrics and lots of amps and other gear, so equipment is not a problem. It would be good if you had your own acoustic or two though, and transport would be a big bonus. We have access to a PA to borrow but will probably buy one at some point.
If you are up for learning some mandolin (the parts are REALLY easy) that would also be a bonus. We're also going to be advertising for someone to do permanent mandolin, but the willingness to do mandolin won't hurt.
Any gig earnings will be split evenly between everyone. We have an offer to play the Leith Festival and have been handing out CDs to a lot of venues and chasing them up so there will be gigs aplenty to play. We don't intend to sit around talking about it!
You can learn more about the band and listen to the entire album at www dot under the dogwood tree dot com. No spaces. We can also send a dropbox link over of the tunes etc.
